Two Up
Second HCG - 755
So it, what? Tripled? Well, whatever it did, it is good.
Now, I am hosting a book club tonight (I KNOW! *ME*!) so I have to figure out how to reduce the cat hair on the couch by at least 60%. Also I bought about 40 lbs of cheese and a ream of crackers so I need to arrange it all attractively on platters and whatnot. Hostess-y things.
Back tomorrow.
PS Since it is my house I got to pick the book. I went with Custom of the Country by Edith Wharton. So far I have heard that one woman isn't coming tonight because after the first thirty pages or so she hated the characters with a passion and knowing that I liked it so much.... WELL. Of course, with all due respect to the woman, um, show of hands, who won the Pulitzer here? Huh? I didn't think so.
And au contraire on my having the social chops to round up this little gathering. I actually whined myself into this group in a most embarrassing and puerile way. You would be ashamed of me. I shall confess the details tomorrow.
Refreshing paid off. BIG!
Yay!

Constant refreshing pays off!
Re: cat hair - if you have duct tape it can't be beat.
Have fun tonight! Now, Patrick's finished the book, right, so he can comment intelligently during the proceedings?

60% - That's a serious number! 755, That's serious on a whole 'nother level! Congrats!
Posted by: Vix | February 23, 2006 at 04:26 PM
So very happy for you!!!! Also,I second the duct tape.

Excellent! Wonderful news!

Wow. Just--wow. Excellent hcg-making, on your part.
Good luck with the book club hostessing and couch de-hairing.

Yeeh-haw!
Posted by: Jessica | February 23, 2006 at 04:28 PM
Yippeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's one hell of a 2nd number!
Posted by: Andrea | February 23, 2006 at 04:29 PM
Cat hair - use those roller lint brush removers. Love them.
So thrilled about your hcg! When are you going to feel secure about the pregnancy? My husband has a balanced translocation and our magic date seems to be past the 8th week but you seem to run longer than I do before losing pregnancies. Wishing all the best on this one!
Posted by: Cris | February 23, 2006 at 04:31 PM
Holy Majoly!!!
I honestly gasped out loud!!!!!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Anita | February 23, 2006 at 04:34 PM
Awesome!
Posted by: liz s | February 23, 2006 at 04:36 PM
Right the hell on!!!
Book? Have you mentioned what you're reading? Cuz if you haven't that's just mean. And I'm jealous that you've so quickly rounded up enough friends to make a circle.
This is going to be a good year for you - I'm smiling.
Posted by: Lena | February 23, 2006 at 04:38 PM
Good lord. ARe you sure you're not 2-3 months pregnant? Although I suppose you would be in a position to know.
And ditto on the "what are you reading" in book club question.
Well, I know what *I'm* going to be doing for the next 8 months! Refresh refresh refresh...
Posted by: nate | February 23, 2006 at 04:41 PM
Fantabulous news my dear!
Posted by: Libby | February 23, 2006 at 04:42 PM
Cat hair--rubber gloves. SWARE. Use those rubber gloves old ladies use to clean the dishes. Anyway, just put those puppies (dry of course) on and wipe away on the surface of the couch, etc. Works like magic.

I'm grinning ear to ear and tearing up over here. What a day for you!

WOOOO! On both the boob front and the super duper numbers. Excellent news!
Posted by: elecriclady | February 23, 2006 at 05:06 PM
Julia, I have every possible appendage crossed for you... your HCG numbers look great, and I'm so glad the breast thing turned out to be nothing.
Posted by: Lisa C. | February 23, 2006 at 05:16 PM
Congratulations on your hcg number! Can't wait to hear how the book club goes, and how you convinced them to let you in. (Did you have to pass a literacy test?)
And then do we get to hear about friends in general? This is a topic that comes up all the time with my (gasp! I have some!) few close girlfriends and something that we all struggle with. I think it's a challenge for every woman but would be interested in hearing your thoughts - and those of the 486349603 others who will comment, as well :).

Great number, pregnant lady!
Good call on the book; I love to loathe Undine. Oh, she is delicious.

I will be at bookclub tonight also. Although sadly not with 40# of cheese. Perhaps I ought to crash yours....
nice numbers, although they look frighteningly like what my scale did after a week of vacation.

Um, can I get a "hell yeah!"??
Okay, I'll leave off the exclamation point. I know you're being very prudent about the whole counting of chickens thing, but this is promising, yes?
-D.

Oh that is so fabulous. Both, the boob clearance and the giganticus HCG.
Have a fun book club night....Have you read "The Mercy of Thin Air" by Ronlyn Domingue? It is awesome.
Posted by: jody | February 23, 2006 at 06:39 PM
Woohoo!!!!
First off congrats on the beta and the boob... it's about time both of those things turned out positive.
As for the book club - however you whined your way into it - enjoy it and the book and the social interaction. I hope these women have a lively discussion about the book and the wonderful food I'm sure you're preparing for this interaction.

AHHHH!!!!! OH MY GAWD!!!!!!! I have tears welling up in my eyes!!! I am so damn excited!!! Keep it up tiny one!!!! ;0)

wooohooo are u sure we can't mention twins??
Posted by: Al | February 23, 2006 at 07:01 PM
Whoooo hooooo!! So happy to see this nice, totally acceptable rising beta. It's so much more fun than the yucky, unacceptable betas of the past.
Hope the book club went well. When you tell us about how you grovelled your way in, please also add a little bit about what exactly you did there. I've always stayed away from these clubs because I like to read, but don't find I have much to say beyone "I liked it" or "It was sheer torture to finish". I picture it being like high school English class where you're looking for hidden meanings in all the characters. And I didn't enjoy that back then and sure won't do it again voluntarily!
Congratulations on those numbers.
Posted by: Christine K | February 23, 2006 at 07:19 PM
Congratulations. So nice to have so many things going on that "congratulations" can go with!
Posted by: meg | February 23, 2006 at 07:22 PM
Oh, what a lovely number.
I had a funny conversation about Edith Wharton with my husband this weekend as we listened to "Roman Fever" on "Selected Shorts," and he chastized me for not having read "Custom of the Country" when he recomended it to me when we were in college. Oh, 15 years ago. You think I might have gotten around to it by now. But no.
Posted by: Brooklyn Girl | February 23, 2006 at 07:32 PM
Tripling, hooray!
Good luck with the book club; can't wait to hear the confession tomorrow.
Posted by: Arwen | February 23, 2006 at 07:33 PM
This is just the best news.
The HCG, not your book club.
But from what I hear about book clubs, someone not showing because of book disputes will be the least of it. I'll be curious to hear if you talk about the book for more than thirty seconds. Most book clubs I've heard about don't.
Meanwhile, back to realizing that you're having happy HCGs in a pregnancy. How cool is that.

Two huge sighs of relief. I guess this week went as well as it could have!
Posted by: Bella | February 23, 2006 at 07:36 PM
OMG! Go away for a few days and see what happens! COmpletely missed the first announcement and subsquent doubling - happy to join in on the hurrahs for the tripling. Wow!

After dealing with fevers, coughs, and faucet noses, receiving an overdue property tax notice, and finding my daughter's frail diabetic hamster dangling from a shelf in its cage with her front paw trapped in the wire grid (still slightly alive) today, your good news was just what I needed. I think I'll celebrate with Thai food, alcohol, and ibuprofen.
Congratulations on the excellent number, Julia.
Posted by: Jennifer | February 23, 2006 at 08:17 PM
Yay!
Posted by: Jenn | February 23, 2006 at 08:19 PM
Oh, Julia! So, so happy re: ultrasound and hcg!!! Everything will remain crossed at Our House for the goodness to continue. We heart you, at Our House. As to the cat hair? A new couch, I am thinking.
Posted by: terri c | February 23, 2006 at 08:37 PM
So happy to hear that everything is such good news!
Posted by: Erin | February 23, 2006 at 08:59 PM
Do you like these people coming over? 'Cause you could put out The Horrendous Duvet as a couch cover....
Toeses crossed for you. Happy Day!
Posted by: daysgoby | February 23, 2006 at 09:03 PM
Oh, for heaven's sake, if they don't like Edith Wharton they deserve to be held down with forty pounds of cheese and smothered in a cat-hair blanket.
Posted by: Mrs. Breckenridge | February 23, 2006 at 09:05 PM
Oh, Julia! What a wonderful number! OK, so when do you get another reading and when might the good doctor schedule an ultrasound?
Here's hoping all continues to go well!
