Julia! I am so so so very sorry to hear this. It's always difficult and horrible and scary to have your child in the hospital-- especially for something that the doctors have not yet identified.
However, there is the added complication on your end of wanting to stay with Patrick full time and yet having very young children at home who also want/need you. It's intensely stressful for the entire family, and I hope you have a support network who can help in some way. Too bad nobody else can be Mamma for a day.
I've been there, and I offer you the comfort of knowing that Edward and Caroline won't remember this in the slightest, so their discomfort/complaints may be loud, but don't worry about them. They won't be scarred by your absence. Many hugs and good thoughts for Patrick and all of you.

I'm sorry, and wishing him a speedy recovery. Children's Hospitals are wonderful places, but I hate when we have to remember that.
