My mother flew in today bearing frankincense, myrhh and a new book for the twins called Alphabet Adventure.
"Oooh, it has letters! And they are sailing on a ship," observed Caroline as she judged the book by its cover. "Read it! Read it!"
"Sure but what do you say to Nana?" I prompted.
"Shiver my timbers," replied Caroline.
Caroline is awesome.

Love. Her.

Ha!, I mean Arrr!

I hope you told her the correct phrase is, "Shiver ME timbers."

I was going to say something about your post but I was distracted by the kissing couple on your sidebar and wondering just how strong that woman's abs are that she can hold her head up like that for extended periods?
Posted by: Not My Mother | October 12, 2011 at 11:25 PM
Oh that Caroline! She's so snappy with the comebacks! She's precious!
Posted by: Heather P | October 12, 2011 at 11:34 PM
Not sure what made me laugh harder, Caroline's response or Not My Mother's comment. DYING!!

Have you guys read The Dangerous Alphabet by Neil Gaiman?
Posted by: Elizabeth | October 12, 2011 at 11:44 PM
I love her too.
Posted by: Sheridan | October 13, 2011 at 12:00 AM
One day we're going to see her winning an Oscar - all hail Queen Caroline of the pithy comebacks.
Posted by: Carie | October 13, 2011 at 02:37 AM
And who likes Uncle Shelby's ABZ Book (another alphabet book) by Shel Silverstein (for adults only)?
Posted by: giddy | October 13, 2011 at 07:33 AM
It's a good thing you don't tweeter. With the constant comedy show going on in your house, you'd never get anything else done! And neither would we.
Caroline. I love her!
Posted by: Tine | October 13, 2011 at 07:55 AM
Uncle Shelby's is definitely a winner- maybe ok for Patrick in another year or so (insert evil laugh here).
Posted by: Chris in NY | October 13, 2011 at 10:36 AM
Ah, good - you now know that she is a Pirate, as opposed to a Ninja. My four year old is also a pirate - when asked what letter "Pirate" starts with, he confidently replied "Arrrrr!" ...He and Caroline must never breed.

I <3 Caroline...and I have a 5 (almost 6 yr old) who would be a perfect match for her in the future.
Posted by: Kristin | October 13, 2011 at 11:10 AM
AWESOME!!!!!
That child is comedy GOLD. She should be a franchise. She should have her own cable channel. I would totally pay to subscribe to Caroline TV.
Posted by: victoria | October 13, 2011 at 11:19 AM
I thought you were going to announce your twitter handle. And that funny ab book is only 99 cents?
Posted by: Helen B | October 13, 2011 at 11:53 AM
Oh man. Well I will let you know that if you ever get sick of her, I would happily pick her up from the airport in Philly. I'm sure she would end up in the cockpit with the pilot.
Posted by: Christine | October 13, 2011 at 01:23 PM
Coffee out my nose, Caroline owes me a new shirt.
Posted by: Liz | October 13, 2011 at 02:37 PM
Is this part of the series that includes Alphabet Rescue? If you haven't already, that is one to check out for sure.
Posted by: tuesy | October 13, 2011 at 04:04 PM
Shiver me timbers, Caroline is only a bit late for International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Posted by: Sheila Z | October 13, 2011 at 04:33 PM
L.O.V.E. that girl!
Posted by: winecat | October 13, 2011 at 06:26 PM
Superhero ABC is pretty funny -- Astro Man, Always Alert for an Alien Attack, etc.
Posted by: Genevieve | October 14, 2011 at 10:18 AM
Oh this grandma *hearts* that little girl.
ARGHHHHH!!!

Your kids are the best! I'm sure they drive you nuts but your last 3 posts (I'm just catching up; I teach special ed so the weeks are always crazy-busy) definitely made me go, oh I want my own now!
Posted by: Kate | October 14, 2011 at 08:24 PM
She is, by far, the most hysterical kid ever. And I though Patrick was clever. Remember when you were throwing up with one of your ill fated pregnancies, and he came into the bathroom and said "hairball?"
Classic.
Posted by: sarah | October 14, 2011 at 08:47 PM
I second @victoria; I would totally watch Caroline TV. Also, @sarah, thanks for the memory. Patrick does my kind of comedy! These kids come by it natural as we all know. I'm anticipating some CLASSIC stuff awaiting us in the teenage years. However, me own timbers shiver at the Caroline-version of the Saga to Steve. I imagine there will be many many more heart-broken swain in the tale and possibly the need for international diplomacy.

Hey, can you do a post about what to buy your little kids for Christmas this year? My daughter is about the same age as your twins, and reading the comments will help me do my Christmas shopping.
Posted by: I'm lazy | October 16, 2011 at 10:13 AM
Could you please write a serialized memoir of your life so I can buy the box set and later on assign them to my grandkids as must-read a-la little house on the cyber prarie so they can know what things were like when aincent grandma was a wee spritely lass? Also, I would feel awesome giving you money.
Posted by: Patti | October 16, 2011 at 11:03 PM
I second Patti's request.

Also pining for Hippogriff stories...
Posted by: Kate | October 23, 2011 at 12:04 PM
I can see Caroline really coming into her own on the high seas, actually!
Watched It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown the other day, and wondered if my impression of Caroline and Edward as Lucy and Linus was only a little off the mark, or wildly so.
Also, I know you guys used to watch Veronica Mars when it was on--have you started watching Revenge? It's not as deliciously snarky (could anything ever be?) but I'm finding it pretty clever so far and there are some similarities, so I am recommending it to everybody I know who watched VM :) In any event I find it EXTREMELY satisfying to watch!

Posted by: quirkfarms | October 24, 2011 at 01:44 PM
You okay?
Posted by: Cris | October 24, 2011 at 04:50 PM
Alphabet Adventure and its cousins are on permanent reading rotation at our house. Make sure you look for the missing dot. Its on almost every page if you just know where to look.
Also, have you experienced the joy of Alpha Oops? Oh do. Do do do.
